Atlantic Unbound

An archive of online articles from The Atlantic. Includes some great author interviews that I noted in an earlier post. There's also a nice interview with the New Hampshire poet Donald Hall.

Stockwell Cellars and Pickup

Stockwell Cellars. Fair Avenue, Santa Cruz, California.
Cameron and I were driving down Fair Avenue today, and saw this quintessential Santa Cruz scene: cruiser bike parked in front of an old warehouse with a wine operation going on inside. We parked and walked back so I could take this shot. The winemaker, Eric Stockwell (dimly visible in the shadows) introduced himself and offered us some wine.

Ford Pickup. Santa Cruz, California.
Not sure if this is Eric's pickup, or if he was riding the cruiser, but I'm still a sucker for late-model car grilles. Maybe I really am a car guy.

DDoS Attack Map

Digital Attack Map (http://www.digitalattackmap.com/)

So, I like photographs, but I also like maps. This one is both fascinating and scary. It's generated from anonymous network traffic and DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attack statistics. Click on the link (http://www.digitalattackmap.com/) for the current animated version and more information.

Moore Creek Canyon Trail

Moore Creek Canyon, Santa Cruz, California.
My favorite run/hike in the city of Santa Cruz. It rained on Saturday, and, though we're still in the midst of a drought, everything is green right now, including the meadows.

The Googleplex patio is undergoing a big renovation. And it's raining in California today -- Yay!

Dodge

Dodge, Santa Cruz, California. December 2011.
I'm not really a car guy, but I do like the art-deco look of some of the older front ends. I have a similar photograph I took in college of a Plymouth (I'll have to find that and scan it). I spotted this one a couple of years ago on the street in Santa Cruz.

Went for a beach walk on Saturday, then a bike/run in the hills just west of Santa Cruz. Click on the photographs for a larger view.

Surf Competition, Santa Cruz, California

A couple of weeks ago, there was an 18-and-under surf competition at Steamer Lane, and the waves were pretty big:
